Dr. Epstein's work is in philosophy of language and the philosophy of social science, particularly focusing on issues in the theory of reference and the ontology of social kinds. He also has interests in conceptual schemes, the emergence of mathematical formalism, the philosophy of music, and the
philosophy of economics. Dr. Epstein received a master's degree from Oxford, and his PhD from Stanford in 2004. His dissertation was on social kinds and the nature of reference. Dr. Epstein teaches courses in logic, the philosophy of language, and the philosophy of social science.
