Mark Gifford specializes in ancient Greek philosophy.
Although his focus lies primarily in ethics and epistemology,
his concerns range over most philosophical topics and
figures in the Pre-Classical, Classical, and Hellenistic
periods. He also has interests in the place of philosophy
within the broader context of Greek intellectual, political,
and cultural history. Special research concentrations
include the literary dimensions of Platonic dialogues
and the epistemological project of Plato and Aristotle,
particularly its relations with their ethical theories
and its significance for contemporary epistemological
theorizing.
