The ASPECT (Alliance for Social, Political, Ethical
and Cultural Thought)
Ph.D. Program
Virginia Tech anticipates the launching of the ASPECT
Ph.D. program in 2006. This program allies together
a multidisciplinary coalition of departments: Philosophy,
Political Science, History, and Interdisciplinary Studies.
Faculty and students in this program will conduct research
and participate in graduate seminars addressing developing
theoretical problems at the intersections of political
theory, ethical philosophy, cultural studies, and intellectual
history. Typical issues include state sovereignty, religion
and politics, comparative ethics, security and democracy,
material culture, science and technology, global change,
identity and otherness, environmental crisis, networks
and states, or corporate power. For more information,
