Ph.D. (ASPECT)
The Alliance for Social, Political, Ethical, and Cultural Thought
The Department of Philosophy is a member of the Alliance for Social, Political, Ethical, and Cultural Thought (ASPECT), a new interdisciplinary Ph.D. program at Virginia Tech. The other constituent member departments of the program are History, Interdisciplinary Studies, and Political Science. ASPECT also participating faculty from departments such as English, Foreign Languages and Literatures, Government and International Affairs, and Sociology, among others.
The ASPECT program aims to expose doctoral students to a variety of disciplinary literatures and methodologies. Students who have completed or who expect to complete an M.A. degree, or equivalent, may apply for acceptance into the program. Admitted students pursue four semesers of coursework at Virginia Tech, and thereafter write a doctoral dissertation under the supervision of a multidisciplinary advisory committee.
